In Philippine mythology, the Berkakan is a giant sea creature that lives in the farthest depths of the ocean. Lam-Ang the main character of the Philippine epic "Biag ni Lam-ang" (Life of Lam-ang), is a fierce Filipino warrior that was devoured by this creature in one of his quests. But later in the story, his bones were collected and brought back to life.
The Berkakan is said to be either a pating (shark) or a ballena (whale).
